Hector was born in Wollongong on the 19th March 1911 and he enlisted in the RAAF in Richmond, New South Wales on the 27th November 1939. Hector spent quite some time with the RAAF and was discharged from No.2 Stores Depot at Regents Park on the 2nd September 1960.
The following note was sent to the Spitfire Association by Trevor Dean, the Curator of the Australian Aviation Museum in Bankstown, NSW:
“As for my late father, as with many men of his era, he did not mention very much about his active service. Dad was a very modest man and unfortunately in his latter years, was often very ill and eventually passed away in Concord Hospital. One of my last memories is visiting Dad in the hospital at Richmond Air Force Base during an Air Training Corps (ATC) Camp.”
