The only problem with trying to identify some of the fellows is that we need their full name. Unfortunately, George is one of four possible George Hardys, and we are regrettably unable to identify which one he is. Possibly, one of his family or friends may see this story on George and be able to give us his second name or service number.
A Letter from George Hardy, 457 fitter, who provided a photo (see above) for the “As we were Gallery” in issue No.69 of the Spitfire News magazine, proves that this feature has some reward. The photo identified him aa Flight Rigger of “B” Flight in 457 Squadron. He wrote:
“When the Spitfire News came out, I had a phone call from a chap from the Lismore area, who lives about 20 miles out, and is called Jack Stewardson. We are going to meet in Lismore for lunch some time soon.”
George and Jack agree that a Gold Coast 457 Squadron get together lunch as suggested by our Spitfire News magazine editor in issue No.69 page 9 has merit. I have already referred to this proposal in “Coming Events”.
