Gore, Stanley “Granddaddy” George

Stan was born on the 24th May 1905 in Annandale, New South Wales. He enlisted in Sydney on the 22nd July 1941.

Stan was a Sergeant DMT (Driver Motor Transport) serving on 7 RSU (Repair and Salvage Uit) both at Pell strip and Darwin (civil) airfield. Stan’s excellent driving skills positioned him as the top driver on difficult salvage and aircraft recovery operations.

Affectionately known as “Granddaddy” during his RAAF days, he was discharged on the 26th February 1946.

Post-War, he was employed by Maitland City Council. Stan died at East Maitland in 1996 aged ninety-one years.
